Acts 20:22-27

"And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. I only know that in every city the Holy Spirit warns me that prison and hardships are facing me. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see my face again. Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God."

*

When the time of Paul’s free ministry was coming to an end, the Holy Spirit spoke about his future: “From now on, more severe imprisonment and hardships await you.” Until then, Paul had already suffered countless tribulations for the Gospel; yet, the Holy Spirit told him that even greater sufferings were approaching. Even after hearing this voice of the Spirit, Paul’s faith did not waver. Instead, he prepared himself to devote the remainder of his life to preaching the Gospel. What was the basis for Paul's bold faith?

It was because he realized that Jesus Christ, who died on the cross, is the Creator God. He also came to know that Heaven and Hell truly exist. Originally, he was one who bound, imprisoned, and killed those who believed in Jesus. He searched everywhere to arrest and kill believers, thinking he was doing it for God. While on his way, he met Jesus Christ directly, and at that moment, he realized that Jesus is God Himself.

Though he had strived for God, he had actually been hindering God's work. He realized his faith had been wrong. From that point, his life's goal turned 180 degrees; he was transformed into one who lived only for Jesus. When he did not know Jesus, he persecuted Christians extremely; but when he met Jesus, he realized the truth and changed into a person living only for Him. He had believed in God through the traditions of the elders rather than the Word of the Bible. At that time, in his eyes, those who repented, received the Holy Spirit, and believed in Jesus were hateful; they all looked like heretics to him.

The traditions of the elders that Paul followed then are the human doctrines of today. Human doctrines are led and created by Satan. Satan is the wicked one who leads God's people to hell by making them discard the Word of the Bible and believe in human doctrines instead. If you believe in human doctrines, repentance and obedience are not necessary; you think you go to heaven just by attending church. Thus, they believe that by confessing Jesus as Lord just once, all past, present, and future sins automatically disappear.

Therefore, the message they hate to hear most is the word of Jesus: "Believe in Jesus, repent, receive the Holy Spirit, obey, and go to heaven." The transformed Paul preached the very Jesus Christ he had once opposed. He cried out that only the blood of Jesus delivers us from sin to become citizens of heaven. However, he taught that for this salvation to be achieved, human repentance is absolutely necessary. Paul preached this Gospel clearly, risking his life. Yet, many refused to receive this Gospel to the end. They were mainly Jews who followed the traditions of the elders. Paul told them clearly: "Now I have fulfilled my responsibility in preaching the Gospel to you. If you perish because you do not receive this Gospel and do not repent, you must take responsibility for yourselves."

Acts 20:28-32

"Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood. I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears. Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified."

*

The Holy Spirit appointed the servants of the Lord as overseers to care for and manage God's people. God bought the churches fallen in sin and death with His own blood, entrusting them to His servants to lead them to heaven. The "blood of God" refers to the blood of Jesus Christ. God, who is Spirit, took on human flesh to atone for human sins. The Spirit of Jesus is Yahweh God and the Holy Spirit. One God is Yahweh, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit; one God works in three forms to accomplish the work of salvation. God in the flesh redeemed all humanity from sin with His blood. Therefore, whoever believes in Jesus and repents receives forgiveness of sins and is saved.

And those who live a life of repentance until the end enter heaven, while those who abandon a life of repentance midway go to hell. Even if one attends church, following human doctrines instead of the Bible is not living a life of repentance; it becomes a life belonging to the devil. Paul forewarned that many who heard the Gospel and believed in God would later fall into Satan's deception and follow human doctrines.

Savage wolves enter the church to harm God's people; this is the temptation of Satan. Many of God's people fall into fleshly desires, commit sins, do not repent, and perish. Satan used fallen servants of the Lord to create human doctrines. Human doctrines are tools of Satan; they lead God's people to hell by making them disobedient and preventing them from repenting. Only the Word of God holds our faith firm and protects us from falling into Satan's deception.

Obedience to the Lord's Word is faith. And when we sin, we must immediately repent, believing in the blood of Jesus. When we repent, the soul that was dead due to sin comes back to life. The Holy Spirit comes when we repent of our sins. The Holy Spirit always brings this truth to our minds. Thus, He prevents us from falling into Satan's deception and leads us to heaven.

Acts 20:33-35

"I have not coveted anyone’s silver or gold or clothing. You yourselves know that these hands of mine have supplied my own needs and the needs of my companions. In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’"

*

Apostle Paul did not demand gold, silver, or clothing from the saints while preaching the Gospel. Expenses are naturally needed for missionary journeys, but Paul worked directly to cover those costs. He did not want to be a burden to anyone when preaching the Gospel. The reason was to ensure that all people could receive his Gospel with a pure heart. Even in economic hardship, he helped the poor. He set an example by not causing trouble to people in any aspect. The Gospel is about loving God and your neighbor and always repenting of your own shortcomings. Through this, eternal salvation is achieved; this word of promise is the Good News.

Paul practiced the words of Jesus as he preached them. Therefore, the Holy Spirit always worked with him, and through the work of the Spirit, countless souls abandoned idols and sins to return to God. The Bible always tells us: "It is more blessed to give than to receive." We plant small things for the Lord, but the Lord repays us with great blessings beyond comparison. Through our small sacrifices and devotion, the Lord gives us the great and eternal heaven. And even on this earth, He repays us 30, 60, and 100 times what we have sown. This is the Gospel. The giver is more blessed than the receiver.

How is the life of the Lord's servants today? There are too many who minister to make money and gain fame. Such ministry is not for the Lord; it is for themselves. Not all servants of the Lord can minister like Paul; basically, they must receive support for necessary living expenses. However, many pastors seek worldly glory and luxury that exceed the limits. This grieves the heart of the Lord. When poor church members see such things, the doors of their hearts close, and the desire to believe in Jesus disappears. The Gospel of life cannot be preached through such pastors. How can one who grieves the Holy Spirit preach the word of life? A servant of the Lord must be an example to the saints in every way. The obedience and repentance of pastors become persuasive sermons.

Acts 21:9-14

"He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. After we had been there a number of days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea. Coming over to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet with it and said, 'The Holy Spirit says, "In this way the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem will bind the owner of this belt and will hand him over to the Gentiles."' When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. Then Paul answered, 'Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.' When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, 'The Lord’s will be done.'"

*

It was the time when Apostle Paul was returning to the land of Judea after preaching the Gospel to the Gentiles. The Gospel Paul preached was only Jesus Christ. Jesus took the sins of humanity upon Himself, died on the cross, and rose again. From then on, the Old Testament laws, feasts, and sacrifices were abolished; an era opened where both Jews and Gentiles are saved through Jesus. Paul preached the Gospel to the Gentiles according to Jesus' will. However, many Jews still did not accept Jesus as the Savior; they wanted only to keep the Law of Moses and rejected the words of Jesus.

Although the era of salvation only through Jesus had come, the Jews did not realize this Gospel. This was because they did not receive or believe in Jesus Christ, who was already promised in the Old Testament. Therefore, Apostle Paul had no choice but to go out and preach the Gospel to the Gentiles. Even the Jews living among the Gentiles at that time opposed the Gospel Paul preached. They witnessed what Paul did while living abroad, reported it to their home country, and conspired to persecute him.

Those possessed by legalism or human doctrines belong to Satan. Therefore, wherever they are, such people oppose the Gospel of salvation. A prophet publicly told Apostle Paul that if he entered Jerusalem, he would be bound and suffer at the hands of those who opposed him. However, Apostle Paul did not yield to the pain given by humans. Paul had already resolved to give his life to preach the Gospel. To him, avoiding persecution and pain was not the goal; his goal was to preach the Gospel to everyone, including those who harmed him, to save them.

Jesus came down to the world knowing the pain of the cross and was persecuted, died, and rose again for humanity. Apostle Paul also knew that death and countless sufferings were coming, yet he fulfilled his mission to the end, offering his life. Today's servants of the Lord and Christians should not focus only on gaining fleshly benefits through prophecies and gifts. They must prepare to sacrifice themselves for the Gospel that saves many souls.

Acts 24:13-16

"Nor can they prove to you the charges they are now making against me. However, I admit that I worship the God of our ancestors as a follower of the Way, which they call a sect. I believe everything that is in accordance with the Law and that is written in the Prophets, and I have the same hope in God as these men themselves cherish, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep my conscience clear before God and man."

*

Paul returned to his home country after preaching the Gospel in various nations. At that time, the Jews tried to kill him. The reason was that Paul had gone to various countries and preached Jesus. The Jews claimed to believe in God, but they did not believe in Jesus Christ as the Savior. Thus, they treated Paul, who preached Jesus as the only Savior, as a leader of a sect (heresy). All the laws and prophets of the Old Testament spoke of Jesus Christ coming into the world.

However, the Jews, who read and taught the Scriptures every day in the synagogues, did not realize these words. But Apostle Paul met Jesus on the road while he was severely persecuting believers. From then on, he realized and preached that Jesus Christ is God Himself. From that moment, he abandoned the false Judaism. Judaism consists of those who distort the Word of the Bible and interpret it artificially. They called upon the name of God but did not believe in God's Word.

They did not believe in the resurrection of the dead, nor did they believe that the blood of Jesus Christ atones for the sins of all humanity. They did not believe the biblical Word that those who repent receive forgiveness and enter heaven, while those who do not repent go to hell. Why did they not have the correct faith? It was because they did not live a life of obedience and repentance. All those who live in sin without repenting are placed under the dominion of Satan.

Jews living with a formalistic faith cannot receive the Holy Spirit. Without the help of the Holy Spirit, no one can correctly understand the Word of the Bible. Such theologians and pastors gather to interpret the Bible incorrectly and create human doctrines. Those who create human doctrines perish, and the people who follow them perish together. Believe that Jesus Christ is the Creator God Himself. Believe that Jesus, who took on human flesh and died on the cross, is the very God who created the heavens and the earth.

Believe in the blood of Jesus and repent of all sins. Sin is not loving God and not loving your neighbor. The Bible defines love as not doing evil to God and neighbor. Evil thoughts always arise from the fallen human heart. Every time that happens, you must repel Satan's thoughts in the name of Jesus. Strive to always repent and obey until you leave this world. This is the word of Jesus and the Gospel that Apostle Paul preached to the whole world.

Acts 26:9-15

"I too was convinced that I ought to do all that was possible to oppose the name of Nazareth Jesus. And that is just what I did in Jerusalem. On the authority of the chief priests I put many of the Lord’s people in prison, and when they were put to death, I cast my vote against them. Many a time I went from one synagogue to another to have them punished, and I tried to force them to blaspheme. I was so obsessed with persecuting them that I even hunted them down in foreign cities. On one of these journeys I was going to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests. About noon, King Agrippa, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’ Then I asked, ‘Who are you, Lord?’ ‘I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,’ the Lord replied."

*

Before Paul met Jesus, he persecuted the saints extremely. He received authority from the chief priest and arrested, imprisoned, and killed saints at his will. He also forced believers to stand before the public and deny that Jesus is the Savior. Faith begins when one confesses Jesus as the Savior. However, he caught the saints and threatened them to force them to deny Jesus Christ. This is the work of Satan; he worked as a thorough tool of Satan.

At that time, his name was Saul, and he thought he was very loyal to God, but he was a great blasphemer against God. This was because he believed in God through human doctrines. The traditions of the elders he followed were by no means the Word of the Bible. He had a fake faith and persecuted the real faith. Even today, there are more people in the church who believe in human doctrines than there are saints who believe in the Word of the Bible. Thus, it is an era where the fake overwhelms the real.

Jesus suddenly appeared to Paul on the road: "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" Paul asked in surprise, "Who are you?" Jesus said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting." At that moment, Paul realized that the Jesus he was persecuting is God. However, it was already recorded in the Bible that God would come into the world in human flesh; yet, he had not believed this word. And it was recorded in the Bible that God in the flesh, Jesus, would carry the sins of humanity, die, and rise again.

But the traditions of the elders did not teach those biblical words as they were. How can not believing the Bible be faith? That is a fake faith. Today's human doctrines are even more wicked than the traditions of the elders. They say that before a person is born, they are already divided into those who will be saved and those who will not. They say that once you confess Jesus as Lord, past, present, and future sins disappear all at once. They say they go to heaven even if they do not live a life of repentance and obedience.

Human doctrines directly deny and oppose the Word of the Bible. Believe that God is one and believe that God is Jesus. Obedience to Jesus' words is faith. Forgiving and loving one another is the evidence of believing in Jesus. Repenting of all shortcomings and disobedience and being forgiven is the way to salvation. Why do countless Christians leave the essence of faith to follow what is fake? Gifts, power, and prophecy—these are secondary things. If you put secondary things before the words of Jesus, the way of salvation cannot be seen. The essence of faith is obeying Jesus' words and repenting of sins.
